Exterior Colour Selection | Interior Finishes | Reception Design
Located in the heart of Toowoomba, this beautiful Californian bungalow was thoughtfully restored by Nelson Janke for the owners of East Toowoomba Skin Cancer Clinic. The project transformed a classic heritage home into a functional, welcoming medical space—while preserving its timeless charm.
As a heritage project, this one was especially close to my heart. I’ve always had a deep love for older homes, and it was a joy to honour the original character while introducing fresh energy and bold design choices. The standout element was the exterior paint palette—something we chose with courage and care. While many heritage buildings default to greys, we went bold, and it paid off. The client said, “The paint colour made the building.”
Inside, I worked closely with the owners to select interior colours and design the front reception area—creating a balance between warmth, professionalism, and personality. The beautiful architectural detailing gave us so much to work with, and the result is a clinic that feels both grounded and inspiring.
This project is a great reminder that even commercial spaces—especially heritage ones—can feel soulful, intentional, and beautifully put together. This project was proudly recognised with the 2019 Master Builders Darling Downs Refurbishment Award, celebrating its successful blend of heritage restoration and modern functionality.
If you’re renovating a character building or repurposing an older home, I’d love to help you bring it to life.
